With an introduction by Zofia Korbonski

"Absorbing, inspiring...The book, which is detailed and written with humor, modesty, and a surprising lack of rancor, makes it quite plain that there is an indomitable quality in the Poles." --The New Yorker

"His [Korbonski's] countless hair-riding escapes make large sections of the books as exciting to read as a spy thriller." --Christian Science Monitor

Fighting Warsaw is an extraordinary human story. Stefan Korbonski, the leader of the Polish Underground State, portrays the years of the German occupation during the Second World War, and the beginning of anti-Soviet underground activities thereafter. His story presents the entire organization, strategy, and tactics of the Polish underground, which included armed resistance, civil disobedience, sabotage, and boycotts. This new edition contains an introduction by his wife, Zofia, as well as 16 pages of previously unpublished personal photographs.

About the author: After their service in the Polish Underground State during the Second World War, Sefan and Zofia escaped Communist Poland in 194 and settled in the united States. Stefan Korbonski served in many organizations and wrote books and articles devoted to the ideal of an independent Poland. He died in 1989, just two years before this dream was fulfilled. Zofia Korbonski lives in Washington, D.C.
